Mary Jo Davis, Age 87, of Belleville, MI passed away November 29, 2019.

Mary Jo Cain was born on March 16, 1932 to the late Joseph and Louvenia Cain in Birmingham, Alabama. She made her heavenly debut on November 29, 2019 after a day of Thanksgiving surrounded by loved ones.

Mary Jo grew up in Edgewater, Alabama with her mother and stepfather, the late Rev. Clinton Steele, Jr. She was educated in Edgewater, Alabama’s public school system. One summer, while visiting her aunt in Detroit, Mary Jo met and married William Marrable, Sr. To this union, four children were born: Dorothy Marie, William, Jr., Mary Carol and Lester Carl.

Mary Jo was very talented and great at all she did. At an early age, she developed a love for music, dancing and reading. During her lifetime, she displayed her talents in a number of ways. He was a travel agent, Girl Scout leader, community leader, den mother, an outstanding cook, fashionista and decorator. She loved to entertain and was often the life of the party.

In the 80's, Mary Jo met the love of her life Samuel Davis and they later married and lived in Dayton, Ohio until his death.

Mary Jo was active in the church from an early age. She learned to play the piano at 5 years old and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 8. She was baptized at Canaan Baptist Church by her grandfather, the late James Cain. With her many talents, she served a number of churches everywhere she lived by playing the piano and organ; organizing plays; teaching vacation bible school and Sunday school; and hosting talent shows as well as other church gatherings. She also coordinated a yearly trip to Nassau Bahamas for Baptist Day. She was a prayer warrior and often stated she had a ‘direct line’ to the Man. Well known for her love of hats, you would rarely see Mother Davis at church without one on. She most recently served as a church mother at First Missionary Baptist Church in Brownstown Charter Township, Michigan under the leadership of Pastor J.L. Davis until her health slowed her down.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Joseph and James Davis, children Mary Carol and Lester Carl; and great grandchild DaJuan William Marrable. Mary Jo is survived by her sisters, Florence Ann Van Horn, Ann Strong and Shirley Jean Respress and brother Clinton Steele, Jr. “June” (Lucy Ann); her daughter Dorothy Marrable-Willis and son, William Marrable, Jr. (Valaria); daughter Brenda Warren; her grandchildren Monique Marrable, Lawrence Willis, Danez Marrable Lockhart (Atheseus), Alisha Marrable-Kinyua (Roger) and Oriana Marrable; 7 great grandchildren; 3 great, great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
