Doug Phillips, a beloved member of the Melvindale community, passed away on July 29, 2024 Born on October 18, 1957, in Detroit, MI, Doug was a caring husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, neighbor and friend.

Doug's professional life as a self-employed carpet installer was a testament to his hard work and dedication He approached his work with skill and precision, leaving a mark of excellence in every project he undertook.

Educated at Redford Unions High School, Doug was known for his diverse skills and interests. Often described as a "jack of all trades," he found joy in various activities such as having a beer with friends, helping others in need, cooking up delicious meals, tending to his yard, and cherishing moments with his loved ones.

A memorial service to honor Doug's life will be held on August 24, 2024, at Downriver Christian Community Church in Melvindale. The service will begin at 1:00 PM and conclude at 5:00 PM.

Doug is survived by his loving wife Barbara Phillips; daughters Patty (Cris) Badgley, Pam (Mike) Schmidt, Samantha Phillips, Shelly (Shawn) Brown; sister-in-law Sue (Russ) Spence; brother-in-law, Tom Rink, sister Carole Hoelscher; his favorite niece Anita Hoelscher; great niece Addy Hoelscher; nephew Mike Hoelscher and Brent Phillips; nieces Cassandra Phillips and Darcy Phillips; 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his father Kenneth Phillips, mother Bettie Phillips, brother James Phillips; father-in-law Howard Rink; mother-in-law Mary Rink; brothers-in-law Larry Rink and Ronnie Rink.

In addition to his family members Doug leaves behind an abundance of friends who will always cherish the memories they shared. Among them are his best friends Mark Friend and Char Knowlton as well as best neighbors; Jeff & Lisa Smith and Jody Fitzsimmons.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Downriver Christian Community Church and Pastor Don Wolan for their care and comfort.

Doug will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the love he shared with those around him. His legacy of hard work and compassion will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace.
