James Rupert Sr., 93, of Romulus, MI passed away April 5, 2023.
Mr. James Robert Rupert was born on August 10, 1929, in Macon, Mississippi to the union of the late John Walter and Annie Bell Rupert. He moved to Romulus, MI in 1946 where he became a member of Parks Memorial A.M.E. Church and completed his schooling. On February 26, 1951, James enlisted in the army during the Korean War Conflict. Upon being honorably discharged in 1953, he became a member of the Negro Baseball League for the St. Louis Browns.
In 1959, James was employed at General Motors, where he retired in 1993 as a skilled trade painter in the maintenance department.
James was joined in holy matrimony to the late Barbara Jean Lewis on May 21, 1976. To that union, one son was born, James Robert Rupert II.
James made his transition peacefully, at home, on April 5, 2023 and has gone to be with his wife, parents and siblings.
James leaves to cherish his memory, his son, James, granddaughter Jena Brianne Rupert, and two sisters-in-law Florence Rupert of Romulus, MI, and Christine Lewis-Nicks of Detroit, MI, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
