Gwendolyn Felton, 87, of Dearborn Heights, MI passed away October 15, 2021.
Born May 30, 1934 in Detroit Michigan, Gwendolyn Jones was the eldest of seven children by Herbert and Sadie Alene Jones. She accepted Christ at an early age while being brought up in Unity Baptist Church, Detroit Michigan. Gwen attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Chadsey High School in 1952.
Meeting her husband-to-be, Mr. Cecil Felton, in their neighborhood called the ABC Community of American, Bryden and Central streets after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1946, he resided with his sister to begin work at General Motors. Gwen and Cecil were joined in matrimony on August 10, 1963. To this union, one child, Cecile Ainsley Felton was born and they loved her abundantly. Gwen and Cecil were married 42 years until he passed away in 2005.
After marriage, Gwen joined her husband in membership at Carter Metropolitan CME Church, Detroit Michigan. Through the years, Gwen has enthusiastically served on the Stewardesses Board, Usher Board #1, Bible Study and Prayer Line Groups, Harold Watkins Scholarship Fund Committee, Bowling League and Den Mother to Boy Scout Pack #36.
Employed by AAA Michigan Headquarters as an Emergency Road Service Supervisor for 30 years until retirement, Gwen enjoyed public speaking and was a member of the AAA Gabby A’s Toastmasters Club, serving as president. She also loved to travel and took numerous trips to Las Vegas and Caribbean Cruises.
Gwen loved life and people! Her favorite past times were shopping, traveling, music and dancing, cultural events, participating in Detroit Bridge Club, Red Hat Society, Rutland Block Club Committee, and many, many more community service initiatives.
Gwen peacefully departed this life on Friday, October 15, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband: Cecil Felton and three siblings: Herbert Jr., Frederick Sr. and Patricia.
To cherish her memories, Gwen leaves Cecile A. Felton-Taylor, her only daughter; George Taylor, her favorite son-in-law and the apple of her eye, Jonathan Taylor, her only grandson. Additionally, she leaves two brothers, Ralph and Council; one sister, Catherine; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends to carry on and to be kind to people.
