Donald Rush, born on May 23, 1949, in London, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, in Detroit, Michigan, surrounded by his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Donald was an accomplished bricklayer in the construction industry, contributing significantly to projects that will stand as a testament to his skill and hard work. He attended Bush High School, where he laid the groundwork not only for his professional life but also for the values he carried into adulthood.

A proud veteran, Donald served multiple tours in Vietnam for the United States Marine Corps. His service was marked by bravery and commitment, earning him several honors including the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with two stars, Combat Action Ribbon, Rifle Marksman Badge, and the Purple Heart. These accolades reflect his dedication to his country and the sacrifices he made.

In his personal life, Donald had a passion for fishing and a love for local farm stands, cherishing the simple joys that life had to offer. He took great pleasure in spending time with his family, supporting and nurturing the bonds he held dear.

Donald is survived by his beloved children: Jamie (Dan) Emerson, Donnie Rush, and Amanda Rush. He was a proud grandfather to Jacob (Rikki) Emerson, Avery Emerson, Baylor Emerson, Nathan Shelton, Aleah Shelton, Aiden Rush, Denali Rush, and Dallas. His legacy also extends to his great-grandson, Bodhi Emerson.

He is further remembered by his brothers Bill (Diane) Rush, Bobby (Jo) Rush, and Marshall "Buck" (Carol) Rush, as well as his sister Carolyn "Sue" (Jeff) Fallin.

Donald joins his mother Ruby, father Marshall, and grandson Jayce Emerson in eternal rest. His passing marks a profound loss for his family and community, yet his spirit will live on through the cherished memories held by those who loved him.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of the VA Medical Center Hospice for their professionalism and care. 

Visitation will be held on February 17, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by the funeral service from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at The Husband Family Funeral Home, located at 2401 S Wayne Rd, Westland, MI 48186. Interment will take place on February 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442.

Donald Rush will always be remembered for his strength, resilience, and unwavering love for his family. He was a remarkable man whose impact will be felt for generations to come.
