Diane Chadwick, Age 65, of Romulus, MI passed away August 12, 2019.
Diane Elizabeth Chadwick was born on February 19, 1954. Her and her older sister, Mary, were raised by the late Elder Sylvester and Ethel Burnett, in Inkster, MI. She was educated in the Inkster Public School system, graduating from Inkster High School in 1972. Diane began working as a Teacher’s Aide for Wayne County in 1973. In 1980, she transferred to Detroit Public Schools. Diane worked with special needs children at several schools including Deiter and Keidan. While working for DPS, she made several close friends. After working for 46 years, Diane retired from Detroit Public Schools in 2017.
Diane accepted The Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and attended Harrison Street Church, known today as Pentecostal Temple COGIC, with her family. Diane served in the church as an Usher, on the Nurses Guild, in the Gospel Outreach Choir, the Women’s Day Choir, Young Women’s Christian Council; more recently Tuesday Women’s Bible Class and as a Praise Dancer.
Diane married Earvin Sommerville in 1973, and they were blessed with one daughter Tomekia.
Diane later married Kevin Chadwick in 1981 and they were blessed with two daughters Monique and Theresa.
Diane enjoyed spending her time with The Progressive Women’s Club for close to 40 years. These members included some of Diane’s dearest friends Clararetha Spencer, Elizabeth Reese, Shelia Hill, Shelia Johnson, Gloria Dennis, Marilyn Brown and preceding her in death Francine Gibbons.
Affectionately referred to as “Lady Di”, she was well known for her delicious 7-Up Cakes. They were a staple at every family gathering. Diane enjoyed shopping and her sense of fashion turned heads. Diane was a mighty woman in Christ whom encouragement and wisdom shined upon others.
Diane’s oldest grandchild, Armand Sommerville, proceeded her in death in 2006. Diane leaves to cherish her memories, husband Kevin Chadwick; daughters Tomekia Sommerville, Monique (Chris) Talley, Theresa Chadwick; grandchildren TaKyrah Williams, Kemani Sommerville, Krystian Talley, Micah Talley, Kalim Weems, Nariah Talley; in-laws Burl (Violet) Chadwick, Cheryl (Waynard) Shreve, Merel (Sam) Wade, Keith Chadwick, Alfred (Enchantress) Chadwick, Iris Poole; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Lady Di’s light will continue to shine in all of those whom she has touched and she will be truly missed.
