David W. Johnson, affectionately known as DJ, passed away on January 16, 2025, in Wayne, Michigan. Born on September 27, 1944, in Pontiac, Michigan, David lived a life rich with experiences, laughter, and love.
David pursued education by attending Waterford Kettering High School, where his journey continued as he obtained his GED. This determination laid the foundation for a lifelong career in the trades. He earned a certificate in electronics and became a certified journeyman electrician. David also served in the Airforce from 1963 to 1967 during the Vietnam War as an aircraft mechanic, a service that earned him the Airforce Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
In addition to his professional endeavors, David was a dedicated Fireman/EMT for Independence Township. His commitment to helping others extended beyond his work as he was also involved in the Jokers Motorcycle Club for 30 years, forming lasting bonds within that community.
Those who knew David will remember him for his vibrant personality. He was a joker at heart, often pulling pranks on family and friends, spreading joy and laughter wherever he went. He had a passion for hobbies such as hunting, guns, muscle cars, classic country music, western movies, and motorcycles, all of which reflected his adventurous spirit.
David leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters, Tina L. Johnson, Tami M. Kirkendolph, and Teri A. Cecil. He cherished his role as a PaPa to EJ (Devon) Austin, David-Allen Austin, Amber Black, LaTisha Washington, Adrianne Kirkendolph, and enjoyed the company of his eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Cathy (Edward) Swan, along with several nieces and nephews, and his loyal furbaby, Princess.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Stella Parks, and his siblings Darlene Reynolds, Phillip Parks, Denise Ferguson, and Douglas Parks, as well as his great-grandson, Christian Joseph Nichols.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, the Joker's M/C, Visiting Angels and the numerous aide, Elara Hospice, most especially Victoria and Shawn; and last but not least, Sweetpea. Dave lived life on his own terms, which was never more evident than in his final week.
A visitation will be held on January 31, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and an additional visitation with family on February 1, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at The Husband Family Funeral Home located at 2401 S Wayne Rd, Westland, MI 48186.
