Darryl Nicholson, 61, of New Boston, MI passed away October 31, 2020.
Darryl Lorne Nicholson was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 26, 1959, the second child born to the late Leroy and Gladys Nicholson. His older brother Terry “Tuff Terry” Nicholson preceded him in death. After the passing of his mother, he fostered the position of nephew/son to his Aunt Mary Dendy, who preceded him in death in March of 2020.
Darryl accepted Christ at an early age under the guidance of his grandfather, the late Rev. Paul C. Cooley. He had a remarkable childhood that included lots of family time. In 1999 at Davenport he met Melissa Pearson and one year later she became the love of his life. Then in 2007 they welcomed their son Jacob Jordan. He also had one older son Taj McDonald from a previous relationship.
Education was very important to Darryl. He graduated from Cass Technical High School. He later obtained an Associate’s Degree from Highland Park Community College. Darryl didn’t stop there. While he was employed by the City of Detroit Parks and Recreations, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Central Michigan University.
In 2002, Darryl was working for the Federal Government at Detroit Metropolitan Airport as a TSA Agent and while there he studied and obtained his Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University. Before retiring from the government he encountered so many great friends that he called family. Having a good heart, he touched so many lives. He was the most caring and sharing person you could have known. He was never selfish. Positivity was the key to Darryl’s happiness. He had a special bond with his cousin Steven Cooley. He called him his “little brother.”
Darryl loved music. Self taught to play so many instruments; he built his own in-house studio where he was a low-key Detroit Music Producer. Even while in the hospital he was getting phone calls about the music he produced over a decade ago. Producing music was his passion and he did it with great pride and enjoyment! In addition he taught himself how to follow and invest in the Stock Market. He loved to talk about it and tell people how there was money out there to be made! Numerous times you would hear him say “Take the Money Dopie!” He was also known to say “Man, Bump that!” and “No Doubt!”
Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life Melissa; son, Jacob Jordan; one sister, Lori (Charles) Horton; a host of cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews & friends.
Darryl, we shall meet again in due time! And Jacob can’t wait for us to reunite again and be ONE HAPPY FAMILY!
