Carrie R. Mitchenor, Age 63, of Belleville, MI, passed away January 15, 2019.
Carrie Ruth Thomas was born on August 22, 1955 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Clifton Thomas and the late Rose Mary Spencer Thomas. She was one of 17 children. During her early teens, she moved to Inkster, Michigan where she participated in the marching band as a Majorette and graduated with the Robichaud High School Class of 1974. She continued her education and graduated from Highland Park Community College before starting her 27 year career at General Motors.
Carrie met the love of her life, Marshall Lee Mitchenor, and they became husband and wife on Carrie’s 26th birthday (August 22, 1981). The devoted couple enjoyed 37 years of love and companionship until her transition to glory. They often traveled and shared numerous celebratory occasions, but their greatest joy and blessing in life was raising their daughter, Shawanda, and grand-daughter, Imani. Carrie was petite in stature, but strong in character. In the Mitchenor household, Carrie was large and in-charge; a virtuous woman who was highly esteemed and greatly adored by her immediate and extended family.
“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her” (Proverbs 31:28)
Carrie’s testimony of faith was exemplified by her trust in the Lord and her compassionate service to those in need. She faithfully and tirelessly served at Middlebelt Baptist Church as the Director of the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), specializing in administrating the food pantry and clothes closet. She also served in the Senior Saints ministry, again meeting the needs of the elderly and bereaved while sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ her Savior. She had a zeal for God ACCORDING to knowledge, evidenced by her commitment to complete the certificate program and graduate from the Moody Bible Institute.
Carrie Ruth Mitchenor leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Marshall Lee; daughter, Shawanda Lynn Elledge; grand-daughter, Imani S. Elledge; and her father, Clifton Thomas, Sr. Her remaining siblings include sisters: Geraldine (Oliver) Thomas; Alfreda Shepherd; Jacqueline (Charles) Reeves and Wanda Fay (Willie) Hicks; and her brothers: Aaron (Tanya) Thomas and Robert Lee Thomas. Preceding her in death were her mother, Rose Mary Thomas; her siblings Tommie Lee Snider, Marion Lee Snider, Navea Lee Snider, Mack Author Snider, John Thomas, Michael Anthony Thomas, Emmanuel Earl Thomas, Rose Thomas, Clifton Thomas Jr.; and her dearly beloved sister Barbara Jean Snider Dillard.
Carrie will be missed, but forever remembered by all who knew her and those she served. Her greatest accomplishment was hearing God say, “Carrie, Job Well Done!”
